//////////TROY Community Academy was founded by Judge Thomas K. Petersen and Jennifer Schuster in 1993 with U.S. Department of Education funding. In partnership with Miami-Dade County Public Schools, TROY serves a total of 70 youth between the ages of 13-18 who are failing in the traditional school settings and/or are involved in the juvenile justice system. Students may participate in one of three work-experience or vocational training courses including our student run restuarant called TEEN CUISINE; our on-site horticulture program; or our extensive journalism program in which our students publish a monthly newspaper and cookbooks and other publications. TCA students earn between $5.00-$20.00 based on their effort, behavior and performance both in their work experience and in the classroom. TCA operates a State of Florida Department of Juvenile Justice program that provides supervision for youth released from residential rehabilitative programs. These youth are assigned a TROY case manager who monitors a nightly curfew and coordinates the delivery of services, including referrals to services within the community that we do not offer on site. After normal school hours, youth attend an after-school program on campus that offers group counseling, pre-employment training, and special community supported projects. Bus passses are provided for students.
